Birth: ABT. 1789 in Northampton County, North Carolina 1 2
Birth: ABT. 1789 2
Death: ABT. 1861 in Gordon County, Georgia 1 2
Note:
[joel8.FTW]Rebecca GOODSON married William RUDD, 8 March 1809 in Caswell County, North Carolina. She next married William AARON 3 November 1829 in Franklin County, Georgia. There were no children known to be from this marriage to AARON.
From the data we have available, the following events have been reconstructed concerning Rebecca.
The first record we have found of Rebecca GOODSON was of her marriage to William RUDD on 8 March 1809 in Caswell County, North Carolina.
Rebecca's father was Jesse GOODSON of Northampton County, North Carolina. He died about 1810 as Rebecca inherited some property from him. She and William appointed William GOODSON "of the State ofGeorgia" attorney to act in their behalf in disposing of the property. We thinkthat their daughter Nancy was born within one year of the marriage to WilliamRUDD.
We can next positively place Rebecca in Franklin County, Georgia in November 1829. However circumstantial information places Rebecca in Franklin County,Georgia shortly after 1812 as William Rudds name was on a list of officialsauthorized to sign passports to cross the Indian Territory. This need was ended after the war of 1812 but took several years before the practice actually stopped. No pasports were issued after 1820. The need for passports was a requirementofthe British government and ended after the war of 1812. William was on the property tax roll in 1821, 1822, etc. He was a constable in Franklin County as late as 1825. However, his children were orphans by 1827.
The next record we haveofRebecca is 27 May 1857 in Whitfield County, Georgia when she applied fora revolutinary War Pension as the widow of William AARON. The application was witnessed by Hortensius Rudd and Demosthenese Rudd. Hortensius was a resident of GordonCounty Georgia and Demosthenese was a resident of Whitefield County. Theirrelationship was not given but there is no doubt that they are the children ofWilliam Rudd and Rebecca Goodson.
Rebecca was granted a pension of $80peryearand aquarter section of land, 160 acres, in Kansas Territory which she immediately sold. The sale of this property is well documented and copies are inour main files. No price is indicated. The location and buyer is also welldocumented. Rebeccasold the property in October 1857.
The next information we have onRebeccais27 April 1861 when she was still trying to collect her money for the pension. Indications are that she never collected any money. She was told, ina letterfrom the Government, that there was no money in the treasurer topay her.She had turned her claim over to her attorney in Savanah. (Her attorney wasnotidentified, but it could have been William GOODSON. William Goodson was inthe 1820 census of Georgia, and subsequent census through 1870 containedseveral individualsnamed William Goodson, most were in and around Augusta andSavanah, Georgia.)
At this point, we have concluded that Rebecca died after April 1861 in Gordon, or Cass (now Bartow) Georgia and is most likely burried inan unmarked gravesite. Shewasnot in the 1860 Census of Georgia, But shesigned legal documents in the courthouse of Gordon County, Georgia on 27 April1861. She wouldhave been 75 yearsold at that time.

Mr. J.T.Walker & MaryAnn (From James Norwood)
Dear Son and daughter. I wrote youby John House, which is the last time
that I have written till now. But I have not received and answer from
you since. I also wrote to Thompson & Liza.No answer from them either.
We are all able to be on foot butnot very well.Epsyis complaining. I
myself have rheumatism in my legs and ankles that troubles me very much
as of late, though I work, not of choice but of necessity. Ourwheat
prospects is pretty promising we think. Our cotton prospects never
looked so gloom at this time in the spring. This month has been cold all
the time. And cotton looks like doing nothing. Indeed nothing can grow
much, the ground is kept so cold --- I am scarce of corn I have not one
bundleof foddernor could I get it if I had gold to give for it. It is
not to be had. In all this country there is no fruit. Neither peach or
apple. In ourcountry blackberrys & grapes is our only chance for fruit
this year. I am attending buta small crop this year. James L. & myself
is allthere is to work. Willey and the girls younger than himself is in
school. I have my land rented out. Some for the third and some in the
hands of freedmen on halves. They all seem to be working well. Should
God bless us with agood season we may make enough to live on.
Thurmond I wish you to send me some money, if it is ever so little in
order that I may place it as a credit upon your papers, as I may be
stepping over my rights & by that means be baredby the statute of
limitations, you can see my object. It is to keep my papers from running
out of date. You have proof I think that I have every desireto favor
you allI can, but while I am
